2013 Mid-Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club Officer Nominations/Elections

2013 Mid-Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club Officer Elections
The By-Laws of the Mid-Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club call for election of chapter officers each year. The past few years, the current officers and board of directors have self-nominated and elected those officers.
Back in the 1980s and 1990s, there was a regular election cycle which began in October with the call for nominations, followed by a posting of members running for office in the November chapter newsletter with a ballot for voting. Due to poor response by the membership, the process was largely abandoned in the late 1990s and 2000s.
Now that we have most of the members online through the Internet, it is practical to return to the original election procedure.
So, with this announcement, the floor is open for nominations for President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Additionally, members who wish to serve on the board in one of the capacities listed in the Alfa Advocate should indicate their willingness to serve. Those unelected positions have been selected by the elected officials, and include:
1.       Area Representatives for Charlotte, Asheville, Triad, Triangle and Hampton/Norfolk/Va Beach.
2.       Membership
3.       Webmaster
4.       Newsletter Editor
5.       Quartermaster
6.       Special Events
7.       Chief Scrutineer
8.       Chapter Historian
9.       Tech Guy
Please make sure that the person you nominate agrees to run for the office. And please provide a brief biography introducing the nominee. The cutoff for nominations will be November 10th. The ballot will be sent out electronically with a place to indicate your vote for each position. Voting results will be announced at the December Holiday Party. Votes will be verified by Delloite Vote Validation, Inc.  (just kidding).
All those interested in serving in a non-elected role should advise the newly elected officers.

Baltimore Grand Prix, 2-4 September!

http://baltimoregrandprix.com/index.cfm

The Baltimore Grand Prix will be a spectacular three-day "festival of speed" in downtown Baltimore, taking place September 2-4, 2011. It will be part of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series schedule and the 2011 American Le Mans Series schedule. The weekend event will feature world-class motorsports competition from several racing series, culminating in Sunday's IZOD IndyCar Series race. In addition to the high-speed thrills of professional racing, a wide variety of entertainment and activities will be scheduled for people of all ages to create an exciting three days of speed and entertainment. The racetrack is a two-mile temporary street circuit in and around the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards, including sections of Russell Street, West Pratt Street from Paca Street to Light Street, along the Inner Harbor on Light Street, and up Conway towards the stadium. Although the race will be held on actual city streets, for one weekend this urban environment will be transformed into a world class racetrack with the best possible safety equipment and fan facilities.

Baltimore Grand Prix Pre-race Party!

We have an open invitiation to the Baltimore Grand Prix pre-race party in Washington DC on August 11th:

Hello Alfa Romeo Owners and Enthusiasts!

The Inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix is fast approaching and we want to invite you to a pre-race warm-up party in DC. As you know, the Grand Prix is an historic motorsports event for our area, and we have been extremely pleased with the fantastic support of the local sports car community for the weekend’s events. We continue to seek your input and support in making this event one of the best on the ALMS and IndyCar schedules.

Therefore, we invite you to a private VIP reception at the Lima Restaurant & Lounge on Thursday August 11th for an evening of spirits, good food, and, most importantly, conversations with our executive staff on the event. Baltimore GP CEO Jay Davidson will present a detailed 3D Fly Over of the circuit, car corrals, race support infrastructure and facilities. GP Chief Operations Officer Pete Collier will provide a special preview of Ubiquity – our mobile application for enhanced fan experience providing up to the minute information about happenings at the track! We’ll review the latest events within ALMS and IndyCar, and cover highlights of the latest races in both series. If you’ve been following the IndyCar street/airport races at Toronto and Edmonton, we think you’ll agree with us that this is going to be an exciting and unpredictable race- especially with Power chasing Franchitti for the Championship.

The Grand Prix Race staff will be on hand to answer all your questions about the weekend – what VIP Hospitality is available, where to park, where to meet your fellow Alfa Romeo owners – and we’ll be able to assist you in purchasing any tickets, plots, or passes you still need to have the ultimate VIP experience at this exciting new event. Please join your fellow sports car enthusiasts for a unique evening of Grand Prix talk, some bench racing, and even a few raffles for VIP tickets and rides on the track. The LIMA Restaurant & Lounge is one of the hottest venues in DC, and we’ll have staff on hand to meet you at the door, get you into the party, and escort you to the owners private lounge for the reception. See you there!

Happy Birthday Alfa Romeo!

Alfisti:

Don't forget, this Thursday, the 24th of June is Alfa Romeo's official 100th birthday. Seems like anything or anyone that makes it to 100 gets a little respect, or at least "street cred"! I encourage all Alfa owners to drive their Alfas this Thursday to celebrate this milestone. It's good to show the "what's that?" crowd what a distinctive, sporty Italian car looks like once in a while!
Centanni Alfa Romeo!!!

Ciao for now,
Rick

MAARC Blog Subscription Drive

To all the members who responded to my subscription drive email:

Thanks to you the member-subscriber rate is now at 40%, up from the previous 17%. This was a resounding success which totally blew away my 18% goal! It also means that many of you are receiving your first email update, so now you should know what one looks like when it lands in your inbox.

Once again, thanks everybody. I hope to see some of you at IAP's customer appreciation day in Charlottesville on September 19th. Look for me at the MAARC table - I'll have some free stuff to give away!

Ciao for now,
Rick

Personal Note from Skip...

I would like to thank the members of MAARC for the outpouring of support and friendship at the passing of my wife, Phyllis, and the generous donation to the Khedive Shrine Transportation Fund.

I would especially like to thank “The Alfa Babes” for their roll in organizing the food and festivities at my house after the ceremony at the funeral home. It couldn’t have gone any smoother and I couldn’t have done it without you!!

I would also like to thank “Ill Presidente”, Ron Weddle for making the trek from North Carolina just to be at the ceremony and then he went back home and wouldn’t stay for the festivities. Now, that is above and beyond!!

Also, thanks to everyone who brought their Alfas. My brother thought someone had opened a junk yard at the funeral home but I will take care of that!

Thanks Again,
Skip

Xmas in August!

Not only is the frost not on the pumpkin, the pumpkin itself is still green... but that doesn't mean it's too early to reserve your room for the annual MAARC Holiday Party to be held on Saturday, December 5th, 2009.

This year we will be going back to our old haunt at The Elizabethan Inn in Manteo. This year, the town of Manteo will also be holding some festivities. December 4th is a "First Friday" festival held in the downtown area from 6 to 8pm, which will be followed by a "town tree lighting". Saturday morning, they will have a holiday parade and who knows, they may need some convertibles to motor the VIPs through.

We have a block of 24 king & queen rooms reserved for $49.99 per night for both Friday and Saturday, 4th & 5th of December. Don't forget to mention that you are with the Alfa Romeo Club to get the discounted rate. Reservation info below:
